Sports massage is very similar to remedial massage. It involves the assessment and examination undertaken in a remedial massage to correct and rehabilitate a specific injury or problem.
The only difference between sports and remedial massage is that a sports massage is focused on a particular sporting injury. E.g. Knee and ankle problems for runners, shoulder problems for swimmers, joint/muscle issues for gym goers.
A sports massage utilises different joint and muscle techniques such as releases, stretches and joint movements to get rid of pain. Sports massage is also focused on prevention, so you don’t need to be in pain to get one. You can literally have it done to keep certain problems from starting in the first place!
Therapeutic massage is part of a remedial massage in the sense that it will give you pain relief based on a diagnosis.
Therapeutic massage will have you feeling relaxed and loose by reducing muscle tension, increasing muscle length and improving movement in your body.
Before your treatment your practitioner will examine the area of pain to determine what the most effective treatment will be.
Therapeutic massage will involve muscle releases and massage of varying depth in the area of pain or the entire body depending on your issue to give you the best outcome.

The most effective massage for you is based on the problem you have. Remedial massage is most effective as it is targeted at a specific problem area. Your issue will be examined and tested so that the massage, muscle releases and pressure applied are designed to give you the quickest and most effective relief. This type of massage also helps to improve movement/mobility and focuses on optimum function to stop the problem coming back.
Deep tissue massage is a more generalised massage for the entire back. Deep pressure is applied to give the most effective relief but not targeted at any one specific area.
A sport massage incorporates a lot of what a remedial massage does and is based on a specific sports injury where the problem area is assessed and diagnosed. Treatment is then targeted to stop the pain, improve function and rehabilitate the area to stop the problem from coming back again.
